The French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) Foundation is thrilled to announce that the Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC) Endowment Fund has reached a $4 million milestone. This milestone has been achieved from several recent donations. First, the FHMC Foundation has been awarded an $800,000 grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. This tremendous gift from the Hearst Foundation is in addition to a $1 million grant by the same Foundation made in 2007 to establish the Endowment Fund.
News of this donation has been met with further excitement by the additional matching donation of $800,000 by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. Finally, on April 16, more than $105,000 was raised at the 4th Annual Share the Hope fundraising event held at the Hearst Ranch. The event proceeds will support the endowment and a new Angel of Hope fund to assist cancer patients with special needs for food, rent, clothing, utilities and more.
The Endowment will preserve the long term funding of the HCRC and allow the center to provide services free of charge to all persons diagnosed with cancer, in treatment, and in recovery. FHMC President & CEO Alan Iftiniuk says, “We are so thankful to the Hearst Foundation, the Hearst family, and the many other generous donors whose contributions have helped build the endowment. Such financial support will make a significant difference to thousands of patients and their families during the most stressful time of their lives.”
The HCRC was made possible by a generous gift from members of the Hearst family, the Hearst Foundation and other community benefactors which allow all cancer patients and families the use of this unique center and its resources free of charge. The HCRC integrates many community cancer organizations under one roof with the expertise of oncology-trained professionals on staff. The HCRC and the FHMC Foundation continues to seek additional donations to fund services and programs.
