The French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) Foundation is proud to announce $140,000 was recently raised during the hospital’s third-annual gala, Satin and Stars. Nearly $24,000 of the $140,000 will provide local uninsured women free mammograms at the hospital’s Women’s Diagnostic Center. The remaining $116,000 will go directly to support patient services and programs. Debby Nicklas, FHMC Foundation Executive Director says, “This year’s gala was a wonderful success, raising nearly 20% more than last year, all of which will help enhance the level of care we provide to our community.”
Satin and Stars, a flight-themed soiree was held at the San Luis Jet Center on September 13, 2008. The evening featured dinner, live and silent auctions, raffles, and the naming of the prestigious Louis Tedone, MD Humanitarian Award. This year’s award was presented to Steve Hearst for his efforts to help those in our community touched by cancer. Without his philanthropy, and that of the Hearst Family, the Hearst Cancer Resource Center at FHMC would not have been possible. Past winners of the award include Ke-Ping Tsao, M.D., Rob Rossi, and the award’s namesake, Dr. Tedone.
The afore mentioned $24,000 for free mammograms was made possible through a special “Call to Action” auction to raise awareness and funds for the aid in early breast cancer detection. The free mammograms are made possible through a partnership with Radiology Associates of San Luis Obispo.
The FHMC Foundation is a non-profit public benefit organization with the purpose to raise funds for FHMC through charitable contributions for the betterment of community health care.
