The French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) Foundation is proud to announce more than $153,000 was raised at the Fifth Annual Hospital Gala Satin and Swing on August 28, 2010. All proceeds from the event will fund life-saving programs and patient services offered at the hospital. The sold-out event featured local actors and dancers, music from Paul Brown and the Sugar Daddy Swing Kings, and live and silent auctions. The FHMC Foundation also presented the 2010 Louis Tedone, M.D. Humanitarian Award to Phyllis Madonna for her philanthropy and community-minded approach which has improved the quality of life for our community in many ways. Her gifts as a businesswomen, musician, author, and philanthropist have greatly improved the health and welfare of many residents and visitors in San Luis Obispo County.
Past recipients of the Louis Tedone, M.D. Humanitarian Award include Jac Pedersen, D.D.S., Steve Hearst, Ke-Ping Tsao, M.D. and Rob Rossi for their long-standing reputations for improving the quality of health care locally with professionalism and kindness. In 2006, the first annual gala established the humanitarian award by honoring its namesake, Dr. Tedone, for his 35 year career providing health care to the San Luis Obispo community. Since then, the fundraising galas have raised more than $600,000 for the programs and services of FHMC.
During the gala, nearly $30,000 was raised during our “Call to Action” live auction held to specifically fund mammograms for women in our community who cannot afford a mammogram screening. This donation means FHMC will be able to provide almost 300 free mammograms. “We are extremely grateful to the community whose generosity has enabled these women to receive this often life saving examination”, says FHMC Foundation Executive Director Debby Nicklas.
The Women’s Imaging Center at FHMC focuses on patient comfort, support, education and outreach. Women benefit from the unmatched speed and accuracy of digital mammography, breast MRI, stereotactic biopsy, and breast ultrasound.
