Hearst Cancer Resource Center

Hearst Cancer Resource Center

Offering hope and guidance to local cancer patients

Since opening in 2008, the Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC) at French Hospital Medical Center has provided over 160,000 patient and community connections to cancer support services, education, and outreach. Serving as a one-of-a-kind resource for cancer patients in San Luis Obispo County, the HCRC provides all programs and services at no cost to patients, made possible thanks to generous donor support.

The goal of the HCRC is to empower cancer patients with knowledge about their disease, identify paths to better health, build a personal support system, and gain a sense of extended family. The HCRC is dedicated to serving cancer patients and their families, ranging from those newly diagnosed with cancer, in treatment, in recovery, and beyond.

The HCRC offers more than 30 life-changing services to patients at no charge, including our Patient Navigation Program, connecting patients with an oncology nurse for vital guidance and support throughout their cancer journey; diagnosis-specific support groups; mental health services with a licensed clinical social worker; transportation assistance; bilingual services provided in Spanish, including translation at medical appointments; an Appearance Center offering free wigs; wellness classes such as yoga and guided meditation; support for patients in financial need; and much more. The vital role of community support

As a nonprofit hospital, philanthropic donations empower us to excel beyond basic care, granting our community access to distinctive and impactful health care resources like the HCRC. The HCRC was established in 2008 thanks to generous gifts from members of the Hearst Family, The Hearst Foundations and other donors. Ongoing contributions from our community allow all cancer patients and families to access this center and its services, free of charge.

Continued community support is essential to maintain and grow HCRC programs and services. Donations are sought to support the programs and services offered by the HCRC. With the HCRC set to relocate to our new, easily accessible comprehensive cancer center in 2026, we expect an increase in both demand for services and the number of patients served.

Will you join us in supporting local cancer patients? 100% of your gift stays local and helps patients at the HCRC.
