$5,000 Grant from Bank of America Charitable Foundation

French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) proudly accepted a $5,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation earlier this month. The grant was awarded in an effort to support homeless patients at the hospital through case management services.

The grant funds will be used to help homeless patients with services needed after hospital discharge. These services might include taxi vouchers for transportation, motel vouchers for a warm and safe night’s stay or other resources such as durable medical equipment that the patient may need. The number of homeless in the San Luis Obispo community is growing, and this grant will make it possible to offer the best options for these patients after discharge.

Over the past five years, Bank of America has supported FHMC with grant funds at a total of $42,500. These grants have helped provide mentoring for student nurses, free mammograms for underserved women, cancer support groups for Spanish speaking patients, and now support for homeless patients.

“We are grateful to Bank of America for their assistance in helping our case managers provide necessary resources to our patients who are homeless and compromised upon discharge,” stated Alan Iftiniuk, FHMC President and CEO. “Bank of America continues to be a truly compassionate community partner in enhancing access to health care services for those in need.”
