More than $48,000 Raised
The French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) Foundation hosted The French Cup, its third annual Golf and Tennis Tournament, on Monday, June 22, 2009 at the San Luis Obispo Country Club. The tournament raised more than $48,000 to benefit the Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC) Endowment Fund.
The event featured a golf tournament, a women’s doubles tennis tournament and an awards reception to conclude the day’s events. The tournament adopted an international theme this year, and golf foursomes were encouraged to represent their nation through dress, flags, and décor at the tournament. A one-of-a-kind trophy was created for the tournament by local resident and PGA Tour trophy designer Malcolm DeMille. The previous two tournaments have generated more than $100,000 for FHMC’s programs and services.
Nipool Patel served as chair of the French Cup planning committee for the third consecutive year. Angela Soll, Melissa Iftiniuk, David Arrona, Patrick O’Hara, Carol Brown, Tracy Ronca and Betsey Kelton also served on the committee this year.
As a part of French Hospital, the HCRC provides supportive and educational services necessary for cancer patients to understand their disease, tolerate treatment, and maintain quality of life throughout their cancer experience. Since the HCRC opened in April of 2008, it has received more than 5,800 visits from cancer patients and family members, as well as many community organizations. The endowment fund was established to ensure that the operations of the HCRC would continue indefinitely while remaining absolutely free to its clients.
